Today the students acted as newspaper reporters to create articles about Mark Wood's recent expedition up Mt Everest. We used Fodey newspaper generator as a tool to make our news clips--this one was written by Annika:

We'd like to send a big THANK YOU to extreme explorer Mark Wood for sharing with us his expedition to Mount Everest. It has been fabulous to be able to follow his journey up to the top of the world and we look forward to our next Skype in the Classroom call with Mark once he's back in England. To climb to the summit of Mt Everest is one of the most grueling expeditions in the world and we are glad to hear that Mark made the smart decision to return to safety when conditions proved too dangerous for his team as they made their final approach to the summit.

This week
In school this week we wrote another Blogger challenge and students have written about COLOURS on their personalized Kidblogs.
We are also thinking lots about explorer Mark Wood and wishing him all the best as he makes his final ascent up Mt Everest later this week. We are part of a wonderful Skype in the Classroom project with 10 other schools from around the world communicating with Mark as he climbs the highest mountain in the world!
We investigated the Fotobabble app this week in school and created some personalized messages for Mark as he makes his way up the mountain.
Fotobabble is lots of fun--have you ever used it?

Iron Man
The students in Year 4 have been reading the well-known story The Iron Man by British poet and author Ted Hughes. We watched some videos that other students have created about this story and we were motivated to build our own robot. We took photos as we went, wrote similes to describe our robot and used Photo Peach as a tool to create our own Iron Man inspired video. We especially enjoyed choosing the music!

Skype call to Everest
After a weak satellite connection on our first attempt, we had a successful Skype in the Classroom call with Mark Wood last Wednesday. It was an amazing experience for us all to speak in real time with an explorer on route to Mt Everest and we had lots of questions for him and his team. You can watch the video below to see and hear our live chat:
We look forward to following Mark's journey to the top of the world via his website www.markwoodexplorer.com where he is posting daily audio recordings about his experiences. We're sending Mark and all his crew a giant THANK YOU for sharing their time and adventure with us here in Phuket!
