Good Luck!

Inspired by Norton Primary School in England, who have sent Mark Wood a video wishing him good luck on his Mt Everest expedition,  we've decided to create word clouds to wish him all the best on his exciting adventure:

We used Abcya! to create our word clouds--it's a super easy word cloud creator that lets you customize with style, font and colour.

Please visit our Kidblog site to see everyone's individual word clouds http://kidblog.org/MsMelaniesClass/

We are continuing to prepare for our Skype call with explorer Mark Wood. Today the children created a Padlet with some questions: We managed to find out one of the answers for ourselves on Google:

What question would you ask Mark Wood if you had the chance?

Google Earth

In order to find out more about Mount Everest we used Google Earth to get a closer view of where Mark Wood will be when he calls us through his Skype in the Classroom project.

To get us started we first looked at our school:

We were most surprised to see so much construction around our school!  One of the students suggested we use the historical imagery feature on Google Earth that enables you to see pictures of the same place back in time.  We noticed that ten years ago there were "lots of trees!"
Next we flew over the globe to Nepal where we focused in on Mount Everest and saw "lots of snow" and "no construction."

We also discovered that we could click on Google Earth photo icons and saw several beautiful photographs of Mount Everest and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Can you find your school on Google Earth?
How do its surroundings compare to our school in Phuket, Thailand?
What other cool Google Earth features should we try out?

Book Week Blogger Challenge

As our school is celebrating book week we decided to have a book related blogger challenge:

If you could magically jump into a book for a day...

Check out our kidblog comments here:

What would you do?

Our Cafeteria

A few weeks ago we were visiting our quadblog friends, the Powerful Learners in Room 7's and read about Wrap Free Wednesdays.  This is a great idea but it wouldn't work in our school because we don't bring packed lunches or snacks to school.  One student in our class was motivated to share our lunch experience with a wider audience and created this short movie:

Our food in the Cafeteria on PhotoPeach

We are lucky to have lunch provided everyday and there is always a wide selection of both Thai and Western foods...we even get dessert!
What would you choose?

Climate Change

In preparation for our upcoming Skype in the Classroom call from explorer Mark Wood, we are trying to learn more about climate change.  We did this quiz about Climate Change from NASA--click on the link and see how much you know...

What do you know about climate change?

Doodle Buddy

During our activity this week we used our school i-Pads to create illustrations. The students had voted online through their Edmodo accounts for possible topics and the winning idea was to draw pictures of ourselves or our families. We used the Doodle Buddy app for our pictures--this app has lots of interesting features like: being able to add a smudge effect to your picture, stamp on images, use cool backdrops and add text. We also learned how to take screen shots and used the images with Clipgenerator to make this movie:
What could you draw using Doodle Buddy?
